Sign-ups for sports teams

Updated September 5, 2026

A team already has a group chat and a league schedule. You need MojoSignUp when the chat cannot answer “who is bringing orange slices” or “who has gate at 8.” Practice attendance can live here too, but only if you will actually look at the roster. Otherwise it becomes another list parents ignore.

One team, a few sign-ups, many Saturdays

Create a MojoSignUp team for the club or the one squad. Typical sign-ups:

  • Game-day jobs (gate, concession, field setup, cleanup)
  • Snack / drink list
  • Optional: practice RSVP if the coach uses it

Do not make a new sign-up every Saturday. Add instances. If the jobs are identical, apply a slot template. The game-day example builds that grid once.

Game-day jobs

One instance per game. Slots named by job and window. Capacity is the number of adults, not the number of kids on the roster. “Concession 9–11 · 2” is clear. “Help out” is how you get six people at the snack window and nobody at the gate.

Leave listing off. Share the URL in the team chat with the opponent and start time in your message. The page does not need to be searchable by the other team’s parents.

Snacks

Either a slot per game (“Snacks · 1” on each instance) or one sign-up whose instances are the season dates and a single snack slot on each. Families pick a date. If two families can bring snacks, capacity 2. Put allergen expectations in the description (“no peanuts”), not in twelve slot titles.

Practice

Recurring weekday instances, capacity equal to the roster if you need a headcount, or no slots at all. If the coach will not open the page before practice, skip this sign-up. An unused roster trains families to ignore the next one.

Weather and cancellations

Edit the instance title or description when a game moves. If it is canceled, remove the instance or mark it clearly and tell people in chat. Unregistering does not cancel the game; it only frees a job. There is no league sync. The official schedule is still the league’s.

What not to publish

Kids’ full names, medical conditions, and home addresses. Jersey numbers in a closed team chat are fine; they are not a good slot title on a page with a guessable URL. Adults’ first names on a volunteer slot are enough.

Season kickoff

Build the template before the first game. Generate or add the first four Saturdays. Register yourself on a dummy slot, unregister, then send the link. Ask families to pick one snack date and one job in the first 48 hours, then assign the leftovers in conversation and enter those names. The week-of checklist is the Friday-before habit.
