Capacity limits on dates and slots
Updated August 24, 2026
Capacity is the number of registrations a sign-up, instance, or slot will accept. When the count is reached, that item stops taking new names. MojoSignUp does not keep a waitlist. If you need a backup list, collect it outside the product or raise capacity and message people yourself.
Default capacity on the sign-up
The create form asks for a default capacity between 1 and 1,000. That number is a starting point for new instances. It is not a hard cap on the whole event across every date. A class that meets eight times with default capacity 15 can have 15 people on each date, not 15 people total.
Change the default when most of your dates share the same room size. Override the individual instance when one night is in a smaller room.
Instance capacity
Each instance can set its own capacity. Leave it blank to inherit the sign-up default. Use a specific number when that date is different. A gym that holds 40 and a classroom that holds 18 should not share one number.
Slot capacity
Slots ignore the idea of “everyone on this date” and track the job. A grill shift with capacity 2 is full after two names, even if the instance could hold twenty spectators. A dessert slot with capacity 6 lets six households bring dessert.
For teacher conferences, give each time window capacity 1. That produces a schedule without double-booking. For a cleanup crew, capacity 4 is usually better than four separate slots named Cleanup 1 through Cleanup 4.
What registrants see
The public page shows how many spots remain on the instance or slot they are viewing. When remaining spots hit zero, that choice is no longer offered. Other dates and slots stay available.
There is no automatic email to a waitlist, and no “notify me if someone drops.” When someone unregisters, that spot opens again for the next person who loads the page. See How attendees unregister.
Raising or lowering limits later
Organizers can edit capacity after people have registered. Lowering it below the current count does not remove existing names; it only blocks new ones. Raising it immediately allows more registrations. If you cut a room reservation, remove extra people from the roster yourself and tell them.
Capacity is a scheduling control, not a payment control. Paid plans may add payment features separately. Do not treat a full roster as a completed sale unless you have confirmed that elsewhere.
